The figure of the general and director of the Carabinero Police Intelligence Directorate (Dipolcar), Luigi Lopresti is in the crosshairs after an interference reportin which he is accused of implementing a “silent strategy” to “undermine” the government of President Gabriel Boric.
According to the aforementioned site, Lopresti -linked to the right and to the figure of José Antonio Kast- would have arranged a plan that would consist of delivering partial police intelligence reports to the Ministry of the Interior and Public Security, suspending the secret surveillance of the President and the Minister Izkia Siches and informing former authorities of the government of former President Sebastián Piñera of situations in advance, among other accusations.
Due to this report, several political fronts have reacted. The last was the Socialist Party (PS), who through a statement, called for an “exhaustive investigation” against Lopresti.
“The Socialist Party of Chile asks the respective authorities for an exhaustive investigation into the complaint made in the electronic medium Interferencia, regarding the possible extra-institutional orientation established by Carabineros General Luigi Lopresti in the Police Intelligence Directorate, under his responsibility” , they indicate.
“The institutional stability of the country absolutely excludes the use of police agencies for contingent political purposes, and even less so to affect the smooth running of the Government, and in particular, the activities of the President of the Republic, in his double capacity as chief of State and Government”, they add.
In this way, the party stated that “the clarification of these facts is fundamental, given the important role of Carabineros de Chile in the prevention and investigation of crimes and, particularly, in those of greater social connotation.”

In Carabineros they also reacted to the investigation against Lopresti. The person in charge of speaking was the director of Order and Security of Carabineros de Chile, Marcelo Araya, who described the media’s accusations as “serious”.
Along these lines, he added that by instruction of the general director of Carabineros, Ricardo Yáñez, Lopresti himself was ordered to make “the background information available to the Public Ministry.”
The foregoing, in order to “provide and facilitate all the necessary background so that it is precisely the persecuting entity that establishes everything that is indicated in that manifesto.”
The justification for this instruction is due “mainly due to a matter of transparency, certainty, speed and that it be an external body that investigates.”
