The Public Ministry announced that a precautionary measure of provisional detention was given to two people who are related to Operation Damascus, including a former official of the Judicial Branch who was charged with crimes of organized crime and corruption of an official public; while the man was charged with the crime of organized crime.
In his argument before the judge of guarantees, Hironoco Tinoco, prosecutor Gálvez pointed out the alleged link of these two people with a criminal organization allegedly dedicated to the commission of serious crimes in the East Panama area, such as kidnapping, robbery, contract killings, extortion and drug trafficking, among others.
The Public Ministry presented police monitoring and surveillance reports, search warrants and, in the case of the former official, Whatsapp transcripts and audios linking her to the criminal organization and the seizure of data, which were fully legalized at the hearing that took place. ended in the early hours of today, Saturday, February 12.
Likewise, related to this operation, in another hearing also held on Friday, a third person alias “el Mocho” was charged with a crime against organized crime and was placed under house arrest; measure that the Prosecutor’s Office appealed, since provisional detention was upheld as a requested measure due to the seriousness of the facts.
Operation Damasco is after a criminal network responsible for activities of illicit association, contract killings, drug trafficking and illicit association and that would have a close collaboration with the Clan del Golfo.
