The population of Argentina is 46,044,703 peoplewhich represents a growth of 14.77% in relation to 2010, when a total of 40,117,096 inhabitants had been reported, according to the provisional results of the 2022 Census released this Tuesday afternoon by the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (Indec).

The 51.76% of the population are women and 48.22% menwhich means that there are 1.6 million more women than men, and 0.02% were not associated with either of these two sexes, it was reported during the presentation that took place this Tuesday afternoon in the Eva Perón Room , located on the 2nd floor of the INDEC headquarters, at Avenida Julio A. Roca 609.

The act was headed by the director of the Institute, Marco Lavagnawho was accompanied by the technical director Pedro Lines, the national director of Social and Population Statistics, Gladys Massé and the national director of statistical methodology and infrastructure, Gerardo Mitas.

“The City of Buenos Aires is where the country has the highest percentage of women, as well as Mendoza capital, Vicente López (province of Buenos Aires) and San Juan capital,” Lavagna remarked.

The provinces with the most inhabitants are Buenos Aires (17,569,053), Córdoba (3,978,984), Santa Fe (3,556,522) and Mendoza (2,014,533), and those with the fewest are Tierra del Fuego, Antártida and Islas del South Atlantic (190,641), Santa Cruz (333,473), La Pampa (366,022) and La Rioja (384,607).

Regarding the total number of homes, there are 17,805,711 throughout the country, of which 17,780,210 are private and 25,501 collective (boarding schools; barracks; homes for the elderly; homes for children and adolescents; homes for religious; tourist hotels, apart hotels, tourist cabins, and prisons).

The population in private homes is 45,767,858 people, in collective homes it reaches 273,883 and in street situations 2,962.

In relation to the population living on the streets, Lavagna explained that “data from people who are in shelters will be incorporated into this figure” because “the Census was carried out on May 16, 2022 (two days before the general Census), a It was a cold day and the largest number of people had moved to shelters, and these people are accounted for in collective housing”.

Regarding the 47,327,407 of this Tuesday “it is not exactly comparable to the information on how the operation came. What was presented here is the effective count of people.”

On that occasion, INDEC had specified that the data “should be interpreted as a trend of the field operation” and recalled that at that time they had been described as “an exit door” and may differ from the final results.

“We found that 2% of the homes that had been digitally censused had some type of error. Some 330,000 homes had an error or had entered many times, and they had not completed the census. We cleaned those homes,” Lavagna said.

Lavagna asserted that “the 11th National Census of Population, Households and Housing that took place between March 16 and May 18, 2022 inaugurated a new stage in the history of census operations in the Argentine Republic“.

And he explained that it is because “it provides updated data on the country’s population, to recognize us after 12 years of the previous one, and because INDEC implemented a set of innovations that allowed it to reach a territorial coverage of 98.6% of the total number of census segments, a figure that results in considering a successful implementation of the census” according to the parameters of the United Nations Statistics Division.

Lavagna explained that “for the first time, the legal census methodology was used, by which people were counted in their place of habitual residence“.

He also clarified that “it raises the bar at the institutional level to take firm and accurate steps aimed at developing a Statistical Population Registry that harmonizes the new census data with information from administrative records.”

Nuñez, Belgrano and Colegiales, the most populated neighborhoods in CABA according to provisional data from the Census

In the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires there are 3,120,612 inhabitants, of which 265,199 live in Commune 13, corresponding to the neighborhoods of Núñez, Belgrano and Colegiales, according to provisional data from the 2022 Census presented this Tuesday by the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (Indec) at the agency’s headquarters.

In this way, the population in the Capital of the country grew by 7.97% with respect to the 2010 Census (2,890,151) and by 12.4% when compared to the data from the 2001 Census (2,776,138).

Among the provisional results, it was detailed that this number is made up of 1,638,764 private homes and 1,946 collective homes.

Meanwhile, the population in private homes is 3,092,942, while the population in collective homes is 26,767, and the population living on the streets is 903 people.

The communes of the city with the largest number of inhabitants are Comuna 13, corresponding to the neighborhoods of Núñez, Belgrano and Colegiales, with 265,199 inhabitants; followed by Comuna 14, that is, the Palermo area, with 249,016 inhabitants; and in third place is Comuna 12, which includes the neighborhoods of Coghlan, Saavedra, Villa Urquiza and Villa Pueyrredón, with 236,294 inhabitants.

On the other hand, the largest commune with homeless inhabitants is Commune 1, with 242 registered people and Commune 3 with 172.

The 2022 Census is unprecedented in operational terms because it combined the traditional territorial sweep by interview with the digital modality of self-registration.

“This for us was a transition census because it set the bases and methodological changes for the next censuses,” Lavagna said.

He added that “more than half of the population of homes distributed throughout our territory chose to register through the web page that was specially created by the INDEC technology team.”

“The great acceptance of this innovation exceeded all expectations and set us a clear work horizon for the coming years: creating new self-management digital tools for the people and companies that participate in our censuses, surveys and studies,” he highlighted.

55.28% of the total population answered through the Digital Census: 65% answered the questionnaire by cell phone, 53% through a computer and 1% by Tablet, while the website had 25 million hits. visits.

For its part, Lines highlighted that “Indec adapted to design, plan and carry out the Census in a context of pandemic and post-pandemic. The vocation and dedication of all the agency’s staff was remarkable. We must be proud of having achieved this successful census at an atypical time.

“More than half of the population was registered with a tool (Digital Census) that was created during the pandemic,” he stressed.

The population had grown 10.63% between 2010 and the 2001 census, which registered 36,260,130 inhabitants.

The provisional results of the 2022 Census also included the total population in private homes, in collective homes and living on the streets, by province and department, party or commune.

The first results of the 2022 Census were released on May 19, 2022, just 24 hours after the on-site survey that was carried out on May 18 in more than 15 million homes.

750,000 census takers selected by each of the jurisdictions participated in the operation and more than 18 million questionnaires were scanned and digitized.
