The United for Colón Coalition took to the streets of the province for the second day in a row, demanding responses to a series of claims presented to the government of President Laurentino Cortizo.
The leader, Edgardo Voitier, reiterated that this provincial strike has been growing and its continuity does not depend on these groups.
“A few months ago we gave the Government a list of requests, they sent us to Minister Paredes and he did not speed up the processes, he told us that he wanted to solve the problems through thematic tables and he himself closed the thematic tables and said that they had already complied. its purpose cannot be ”, he declared.
He said that Colón is a province with serious unemployment problems and that there are more than 90 thousand unemployed people. According to Voitier, 25% of the colonists do not have a job. “We have a disastrous economy with problems of drinking water, stadiums, hospitals, and the bus terminal. We are in the street so that the chaos ends, the chaos that we Colonenses experience, ”he said.
He assured that the solution to the Columbus problem is easy. “We ask the president to pay with love as this people paid him, to come to Colón or to send a presidential statement that he will directly address Colón’s problems because this people negotiated, sat down and had no answers,” he emphasized. the leader.
Voitier also stated that the government needs will because “what these people like is to work, to live well, and how can we live well if we are not cared for. Crying does not solve hunger, unemployment, lack of water, we must find ways to solve problems peacefully ”.
The protests have been concentrated, since the early hours of this Thursday, on the Transisthmian road, at the height of Río Rita, Sabanitas, on the road up the coast in Río Alejandro, Portobelo and Nombre de Dios.
While, in San Pedro, on the road to the Chevron fuel plant (former refinery), the protesters proceeded to burn tires and blockade the place.
