Provea, through Oscar Murillo, reported that since Monday they have been receiving complaints of harassment, dismissals and deterioration of public employees’ working conditions.
The general coordinator of the Venezuelan Program for Education-Action in Human Rights (Provea), Oscar Murillo, stated on Monday, August 5, that in Venezuela there are no public institutions that defend citizens after various human rights violations were reported following the protests that took place after the presidential elections on July 28.
Murillo, in an interview with the journalist Vladimir Villegaspointed out that the Prosecutor’s Office is part of the repressive apparatus in Venezuela, just as the Ombudsman’s Office is not available to assist the relatives of people who are arbitrarily detained.
“The mandate of the Ombudsman’s Office is very well described in the Constitution, which is worth saying is one of the great contributions in terms of human rights of the 1999 Constitution, and was a way of institutionalizing the accompaniment of citizens in the pursuit of their dignity,” he said.
Likewise, the Provea representative reported that between July 28 and 30, at least 22 deaths were reported and in at least eight cases, witnesses accused armed civilian groups of being responsible for these deaths. He added that there is audiovisual evidence showing the actions of these groups without the State security forces doing anything to stop them.

He also reported that since Monday, August 5, they have been receiving complaints of harassment, dismissals and deterioration of working conditions of public employees, cases that, in his opinion, could escalate in the coming days.
Oscar Murillo warned that the human rights crisis in Venezuela is worsening and that there is currently a “high degree of impunity” that is evident in various actions committed by those in power, such as arbitrary detentions, violations of due process and violations of the inviolability of the home.
“There is a pre-existing human rights crisis before the elections that has deepened in a cruel manner in the first week after the process, since there has been a very strong response from the national authorities to contain the discontent that exists in the streets, the product of electoral results that have not generated the confidence and transparency to give the country stability and the guarantee of peace to which we all aspire,” said the coordinator of Provea.
