Óscar Murillo, general coordinator of Provea, urged the leaders of democratic states to increase diplomatic pressure in favor of “institutional reconstruction” in Venezuela.
In a message posted on his count in XMurillo pointed out that action by international actors is “urgent” given the “situation” that the country is going through.
The university professor and human rights defender made reference to the efforts made by the president of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, as well as other leaders, who «“They have deployed a non-public incident to prevent a US military escalation on targets in Venezuelan territory.”
However, he warned that “it is not enough” and urged them to “use their influence and their voice to contribute and add to a process that channels the majority desire of the population towards a peaceful democratic transition.
