Protests in Peru: SHP warns that the violence “has ended up stoning tourism”

Social and political instability, as well as violence and “It has ended up stoning our tourism,” said the president of the Hotel Society of Peru (SHP), Ricardo Bracale.

“The tourist packages have been canceled almost in their entirety, affecting hotels, restaurants, transportation services, guides, travel agencies, artisans, among others,” he said.

The union representative stated that since 2020 tourism in Peru is disappearing due to the pandemic. Since then it has not been possible to recover.

In this sense, he pointed out that as a consequence of the violence, the image of Peru before the world “has deteriorated” and that more than “more than a million people who live from this activity are again without work.”

For this reason, he called for the reestablishment of social order and communications, “in order to once again be a safe country for those who visit us.”

“The Government must guarantee citizens’ rights and restore peace and order. It is immoral to allow this situation to persist, ”he stressed and asked that the protests be peaceful and free transit not be blocked, nor airports attacked.

In addition, he recognized that so far the Executive’s measures have not been able to persuade those who break the law, so insecurity prevails and Machu Picchu had to close indefinitely.
