The total balance of deaths in Peru has risen to 23, of which 14 have occurred after the declaration of emergency decreed by the Government of Peru
The Peruvian authorities have updated on the afternoon of this Saturday the total balance of deaths after the demonstrations that have broken out in Peru after the impeachment and arrest of former President Pedro Castillo, bringing the total number of deaths to 23.
The Lima Province Regional Health Directorate (Diresa) announced the death of one more person due to clashes at the Ayacucho airport, between protesters trying to take over the terminal against the Peruvian Armed Forces.
The latest deaths take place amid strong protests taking place across Peru following the ouster and arrest of former President Castillo on December 7. Protesters ask the president Dina Boluarte the dissolution of Congress and the calling of new general elections.
The Peruvian government has decreed a state of emergency at the national level for a period of 30 days as a response to the protests in support of Castillo. Likewise, the Executive has declared an emergency in the National Road Network, allowing the Army to take to the streets in an effort to protect the country’s strategic points.
