Protests in Peru: 12 tons of chemical supplies are sent to guarantee drinking water in Puerto Maldonado

The Minister of Housing, Construction and Sanitation, Hania Pérez de Cuéllar, guaranteed the supply of drinking water in Madre de Dios, with the transfer of 12 tons of chemical inputs for the purification and supply of water. This in the framework of the blockades that prevent the passage of essential products.

Pérez de Cuéllar supervised the setting up of an airlift for the shipment of essential products from Air Group No. 8, where she was accompanied by the Minister of Defense, Jorge Chávez; the Minister for Women, Nancy Tolentino; and the Vice Minister of Health Benefits and Insurance, Henry Rebaza,

“This action is a clear example of the joint work of the Executive to take care of our brothers and sisters,” said the head of the Ministry of Housing, Construction and Sanitation (MVCS).

He explained that the MVCS is sending a load of aluminum sulfate, which will allow the continuity of the service in the city of Puerto Maldonado and the populated center of El Triunfo, which could not be mobilized by land due to the blockades that prevent the passage of products from First need.

“The road blockade is affecting the most vulnerable, they are leaving them without medicine, without food, without access to clean water,” Pérez de Cuéllar remarked. “Once again, we call on these people who are harming the population, including their own families, to open the roads,” he added.

Aluminum sulfate is a necessary input in the water purification process. The Puerto Maldonado Drinking Water Treatment Plant (PTAP) uses between 600 and 1000 kg of this compound per day, and by not having enough stock, there was a risk of not being able to produce more drinking water for the population.

The 12 tons of aluminum sulfate will arrive in 3 flights and will be delivered by the executive director of the Technical Agency for the Administration of Sanitation Services (OTASS), Héctor Barreda, to the EPS Municipal Drinking Water and Sewerage Company of Tambopata (Emapat). , which in this way will guarantee the supply to 115 thousand inhabitants of Puerto Maldonado and the El Triunfo Populated Center, for 20 days.

Likewise, more than 1 ton of medicines, medical devices and equipment is being transferred to the Santa Rosa hospital in Puerto Maldonado, managed by the Ministry of Health; as well as food and other goods, managed by the Ministry of Women and Vulnerable Populations, for the Residential Shelter Centers (CAR) of Puerto Maldonado.
