Protests begin in the country for the freedom of Jeanine Áñez and the cessation of persecution of leaders

In the Amazonian Andean New Year holiday the mobilizations in the country did not stop and this Tuesday they marched in Santa Cruz and Cochabamba. In Santa Cruz, a thousand people marched from Christ the Redeemer to Plaza 24 de Septiembre, demanding the freedom of all political prisoners, the annulment of the process against former president Jeanine Áñez, and the end of the persecution of civic leaders.

“Today we did it in coordination with Cochabamba, now the platforms must coordinate next week and they will carry out other demonstrations. It is a program of demonstrations until the Government listens to the demand of civil society”, said the representative of the Cruceñista Youth Union (UJC), Óscar Daniel Paz.

The protests began in La Paz after knowing the sentence against the former President, Jeanine Áñez. The activists took as a reference the statements of the former President, Evo Morales, who publicly said that there was a political decision to prosecute Áñez in ordinary courts.

“We are demanding the freedom of all political prisoners, starting with the activists in Cochabamba; the cessation of the persecution of the civic here in Santa Cruz; the annulment of the trial against the former president (Jeanine) Áñez. We see that all rights are being violated by the government,” Paz said later.

The prosecution promotes processes against different leaders who participated in the citizen mobilizations of October and November 2019. It concluded with the trial of the ‘coup II’ case against Áñez and now they are going with the other processes that are in the investigation stage.

In Cochabamba, thousands of protesters took to the streets on motorcycles and vehicles, a gigantic caravan reached the square September 14 where one of the speakers was the deputy, Erwin Bazán (We Believe), who called for demonstrations against the abuses of the Government.

“We cannot and should not be afraid of anything, we do not have to lower our morale, why lower our heads. United in the streets, without political colors, we put a stop to the tyrant. We in the streets made the people’s vote respected on February 21, and together we managed to make the tyrant flee, ”said Bazán in his speech.
