During the start of the extraordinary sessions of the Congress of the Republic This Tuesday, a group of protesters protested outside the Capitol. After not being able to enter the compound, thanks to the immediate action of the authorities, several people decided to set up tents and spend the night there.
The day was altered because around 3:30 in the afternoon, while the congressmen are meeting inside. The group of protesters who decided to spend the night say they will hold the protest until there are solutions.
“We are here to demand that (private) intermediation in the teachers’ health system end, which has killed 129 colleagues since 2016 due to medical negligence,” said a spokeswoman for the protesters who declined to be identified.
On Friday Petro called on Colombians to go out to public squares on February 14 to support the approval of their proposals.
The protesters, who said they came to the capital from the department of Cauca, denied having tried to enter the Capitol and called the action a “peaceful occupation of space” that they intend to extend over several days.
