The emergence on Wednesday of hundreds of protesters in the Parliament of Nepal, which ended burningmarks a new episode in the escalation of the political crisis which has plunged the Asian nation in chaos, despite the resignation of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.
Local media images, reviewed by the agency EFEthey showed dense columns of black smoke leaving the parliamentary complex, while the army, deployed in the area, remained passive without intervening to stop the assault or quell the fire.

The assault on Parliament comes after two days of massive youth protests against corruption and censorship. The situation has spread throughout the capital of the country, where systematic attacks were recorded against leaders and their families.
OLI resigned on Tuesday pressed by chaos, following the protests of the self -styled Z Movement and in which 19 people died and more than 300 were injured.
“I have renounced the position of Prime Minister with an effect as of today (…), in order to take new measures towards a political solution and the resolution of the problems in accordance with the Constitution, taking into account the extraordinary situation that currently prevails in the country,” said the president in a letter of resignation, cited by the Spanish Agency.

The Premier is part of the Nepal Communist Party (unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN-UML), led the government since July 2024.
Previously, it had been prime minister twice, first between 2015 and 2016, and after 2018 to 2021.
Spiral of violence
The trigger who brought the mobilization to the streets of Nepal was his government’s decision to block 26 digital platforms, including the social networks of Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and X.
Neither the cancellation of that decree, nor the attempts to channel the crisis through the political route have had the desired effect, and the number of deaths by the protests amounted to 25 Wednesday, according to reports from several sources.

The wife of Bahadur and Foreign Minister, Arzu Rana Deuba, was also attacked, in an episode captured in images that circulate widely on social networks, the medium requires.
Other former prime ministers and political figures also saw their houses assaulted and destroyed by the flames, in what local analysts describe as a direct persecution against the political elite of the country.
The protest process against OLI and its fall reminds that of other leaders in southern Asia who were forced to resign in recent years, such as Gotabaya Rajapaksa in Sri Lanka or Sheikh Hasina in Bangladés, recalls the Spanish agency.
