Politicians and protesters held a demonstration early in the afternoon of this Saturday (7), in São Paulo, on Avenida Paulista. They called for the impeachment of the minister of the Supreme Federal Court (STF) Alexandre de Moraes and the amnesty of those arrested for the attempted coup on January 8, 2023. The protesters also criticized the blocking of X in Brazil. The defense of Elon Musk, multibillionaire and owner of the social network X, was another theme of the protest.
Former President Jair Bolsonaro participated in the event alongside the governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas, and the mayor of the capital, Ricardo Nunes. The event was organized by pastor Silas Malafaia. Also participating in the protest were senators Magno Malta and Marcos Rogério, former ministers Ricardo Salles and Marcos Pontes, and pro-Bolsonaro deputies such as Nikolas Ferreira and Bia Kicis.
The protesters wore mostly yellow T-shirts and carried Brazilian flags. They also carried signs criticizing Moraes and supporting Musk.
Minister Alexandre de Moraes was responsible for decision to suspend Brazil’s X. The measure was taken after the deadline given by the minister for the social network to indicate a legal representative in Brazil.
