Santiago.-The social, union and popular feminist organizations grouped in the Cibao Coalition protested with a picket line to denounce the rises in electricity rates, fuel and food.
The demonstrators gathered in front of the central office of the Edenorte Dominicana company, calling it a criminal dismantling of the electricity rate subsidy at a time when a crazy inflationary chain and a visible contraction of the economy are combined in Dominican society.
“The Dominican people are going through one of the worst crises in their history as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war, aggravated by the misguided government policies focused on making rich people richer and people poorer. poor people,” said Osvaldo Brito, who served as spokesperson.
Brito accused the government of not even respecting the agreements of the political and business elites that govern and exceeding the percentages agreed in the Electric Pact, increasing bills by up to 300 percent, while maintaining princely salaries in the management leadership of the EDES and the Superintendence of Electricity.
He said that this is accompanied by a large parasitic payroll as a result of the party’s patronage policy in government.
