Neighbors and neighbors of Caballito starred this Wednesday uA new protest in rejection of the work of the Buenos Aires Government that plans to close a section of Honorio Pueyrredón avenue to deploy a green corridor and objected to the ruling of the local justice that lifted the precautionary measure that kept the construction stopped.

The mobilization took place in front of the Cid Campeador, where the demonstrators blocked Gaona avenue and extended a banner with the legend “Do not destroy Honorio”.

“We want the tranquility of this avenue and not the traffic jam that is going to double and triple with this project later on,” Gustavo Torchinsky, a member of the neighborhood organization SOS Caballito, told Télam.

The work, announced by the Buenos Aires Government in 2021, which includes a green corridor in the middle of the Honorio Pueyrredón lanes, between Gaona and Neuquén, was resisted by groups of residents who considered that the partial closure of the trace would harm the traffic in the area.

For this reason, they began a rejection campaign, which included weekly street protests and the presentation of a judicial protection, which obtained a favorable response.

In February, the 15th contentious, administrative and tax judge, Víctor Trionfetti, ordered the suspension of the work considering that the administration of Horacio Rodríguez Larreta did not comply with the previous mandatory steps for this type of road project.

The measure, meanwhile, lost validity last Friday, when the same magistrate validated a series of presentations from the Buenos Aires government that accredited the realization of the instances observed.

Torchinsky explained that they appealed the court ruling and are “waiting for a resolution by the Chamber”, while he maintained that there is an intention of the neighbors to “dialogue with the Buenos Aires government, but in these almost ten months we have not had an opportunity because it is a monologue in which we are not heard“.

“Given the imminent risk that the works of the work will be resumed, we declare ourselves in a state of alert,” they reported, meanwhile, from the movement and added that “Caballito is still standing because those who lose their rights have nothing more to lose. Larreta and his construction companies have declared war on the neighborhood“.
