Protectionist organizations and vegan activists gathered this Friday afternoon at the Obelisk and then marched to the National Congress to claim for the projects in defense of animals presented in the Chamber of Deputieswithin the framework of the Animal Day that is commemorated and that was redefined since 2019 as the Day of the Struggle for Animal Liberation.

The concentration in the Obelisk began around 6:00 p.m., while at 6:30 p.m. the column began to march along Cerrito Avenue towards Mayo Avenue and from there to Congress, where a ceremony took place at 7:00 p.m. with speakers who referred to to the projects.

During the march, the member of the “Timón Verde” organization, Juan Esteche, stated in dialogue with Télam: “Today we march to end animal exploitation, it is a fight against speciesism, which is the discrimination exercised by the human being by species, believing himself to be superior; That is why we say that animals are not objects, they are not food, testing, entertainment, sports or clothing, we fight for the end of animal exploitation, not just abuse.

Pablo Hafliger, a member of “Anima”, told Télam that “The Day of the Animal was born as a day of celebration and we as an organization since 2003 resignified it as a day of struggle to stop condemning animals to slavery; We propose to remove animals from everyday use, in addition to promoting veganism and animal rights.”

Adriana Cero Devoto, an activist who came to the march with a banner commemorating “Rubio”, a dog killed on the Buenos Aires coast, pointed out in an interview with Télam that “castration is necessary because it is the only salvation for many animals, the population growth and the birth rate of dogs and cats in urban areas makes them end up being victims of abuse or end up euthanized in zoonoses; there needs to be mandatory castration for all pets.”

Patricia Alvarado, president of the “San Francisco de Asís” shelter, maintained that “we are in the 21st century and it is terrifying that politicians still do not understand that animals are not to be exploited, when we see a horse pulling a cart they are breaking many laws and we are militating to eradicate blood traction”.

Mary Antúnez, former coordinator of the Department of Health and Animal Protection of the Government of the City of Buenos Aires (CABA) referred to Minimum Protection Budgets for Urban Fauna; Eliana Couso, head of the Civil Association Fight for Social Integrity and Animal Rights (Aluisa), to the project that prohibits Blood Traction throughout the national territory, and Laura Krekcza, vice president of Animal Libre, to the My Vegan menu project, the three in force in the Chamber of Deputies of the Nation.

The Day of Struggle for Animal Liberation was institutionalized by virtue of the new status achieved by animals as non-human legal entities subject to rights.

The Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development, Juan Cabandié, highlighted this Friday, within the framework of Animal Day, that we are witnessing “a new stage of paradigm shift” in the consideration, by society, of human rights. and animal welfare, announcing the central points that will contain a bill on animal welfare prepared with the participation of different sectors, which will be sent to Congress for its treatment.

Cabandié listed the different aspects agreed upon “with the broad participation of academies, agencies, NGOs, and those who have been fighting every day, with great effort around the rights of animals”, when speaking at the closing of the Federal Welfare Forum Animal, which was held to coincide with the Day of the Animal, in the Women’s Hall of the Casa Rosada.
