The head of the Public Ministry, Patricia Benavidestoday suspended the interrogation of President Dina Boluarte for the deaths recorded during the violent protests of December and January.
Peru21 learned that Benavides made this decision when a protection of rights filed by the Attorney General’s Office before the Judiciary was in progress, since he claims his participation in this type of proceedings called by the Prosecutor’s Office.
Supreme Judge Juan Carlos Checkley has already held the hearing to collect the arguments of the parties. He is waiting for his ruling.
This Tuesday, Boluarte arrived minutes before 9:00 a.m. at the tax office located on Abancay Avenue, in downtown Lima, and left after 10:00 a.m.
Prosecutor Benavides opened a preliminary investigation against President Dina Boluarte, Prime Minister Alberto Otárola and other ministers to clarify how the police and Armed Forces operation took place to reduce mobilizations in different regions of the country.
The crimes that are imputed to the high officials are genocide, serious injuries and qualified homicide.
