The Public ministry required tonight 18 months of preventive detention against the former president Pedro Castilloafter formalizing the preparatory investigation for the coup d’état on December 7.
Peru21 learned that Supreme Prosecutor Uriel Terán will be in charge of supporting the request, which also extends to former Prime Minister Aníbal Torres.
Judicial sources indicated that Supreme Judge Juan Carlos Checkley scheduled the hearing to evaluate the request for tomorrow at 9:30 am.
Castillo is being held in the Diroes, serving an arrest warrant for 7 days -which expires tomorrow, Wednesday- after being arrested in flagrante delicto, while escaping to the Mexican embassy in Lima to request political asylum.
For the Prosecutor’s Office, the former president announced the illegal closure of Congress and the reorganization of the justice system to hinder the criminal investigations that had been initiated for corruption.
Torres, meanwhile, is accused of having been one of the instigators of the ‘self-coup’, since according to the testimonies of ex-Castillo ministers, he was seen together with the former head of state before delivering the message to the Nation.
