According to the Public Ministry, the statements that María Corina Machado would have made regarding a bill approved by the US House of Representatives – called the Bolívar Law – “seriously involve her and constitute the commission of the crimes of treason; conspiracy with foreign countries and association to commit a crime
The Public Ministry (MP) reported in a statement this Friday, November 22, that it was beginning an investigation against the opposition leader María Corina Machado for allegedly committing three crimes in which treason is mentioned, after she supported a project of law in the US called -Bolívar Law-.
The Public Ministry indicated that due to the actions of the United States House of Representatives, “on the occasion of the approval of a bill, which seeks to increase the catalog of illegal sanctions against the Venezuelan people (…) The extreme right led by María Corina Machado and others have expressed their support for it, and have decided to initiate an investigation against the aforementioned accused to be charged for her promotion and support of said legal monstrosity,” the statement reads.
According to the MP, the public statements that Machado would have made regarding the bill, “seriously involve her and constitute the commission of the crimes of treason, established in article 128 of the Penal Code; conspiracy with foreign countries, established in article 132 of the Penal Code and association to commit a crime, established in article 37 of the Law against Organized Crime.”

On November 18, the United States House of Representatives approved the Bolívar Law, designed to strengthen sanctions against the government of Nicolás Maduro, freeze assets and prohibit contracts with entities linked to the Venezuelan State. The instrument, supported on a bipartisan basis, must be approved by the Senate of that country before being signed by the president of the United States.
In response to said law, the president of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez, proposed On November 19, the creation of the “Simon Bolívar special liberating law against the blockade and for the defense of the Republic”, in order to reprimand the Venezuelan politicians who celebrated the approval of Law HR 825, also called the Bolívar Law.
