The Colombian Prosecutor’s Office began an investigation into the death threats that President Gustavo Petro denounced on his Twitter account on Monday, April 3as reported by the prosecution body.

The investigation is being led by the Specialized Directorate for Human Rights Violations and has appointed a prosecutor and a team of investigators and computer experts to clarify the case. Petro, who has been threatened on several occasions in the past and has spent much of his life under official bodyguard protection, posted a video on Twitter in which a TikTok user can be heard making offensive and threatening comments against him.
In the video, the individual refers to the Colombian president as “garbage” who “does not deserve to be called human,” and declares that, given the opportunitywould take him out of the way and send him to the “valley of the lying down”.
“I hope that the prosecutor (Francisco Barbosa) investigates the individual who threatens and slanders me. I await the results of the investigation,” Petro wrote. Petro’s opponent on social networks, known as ‘Andrumau’, has gained recognition for the messages he launches against the Government. In his defense, he affirmed that the video published by the political activist Gener Úsuga would be “edited and manipulated”, and that Said action is a common tactic in the “Petrist wineries”.

In addition, this TikTok user highlighted that, supposedly, he already presented the video of the moment in which He made such comments to the Prosecutor’s Office to clarify any doubts about the veracity of his statements. The Prosecutor’s Office initiated legal actions to locate the IP address and establish the identity of the user behind these threats.
