Prosecutor's Office draws attention to José Domingo Pérez for testifying without authorization

The Public Ministry called the prosecutor’s attention Jose Domingo Perez for not abiding by the spokesperson rules established by the Attorney General, Delia Espinoza, when providing statements on a specialized web portal.

Pérez offered an interview to the LP Derecho website on December 21, clarifying that he was not testifying as a prosecutor but as a teacher and lawyer.

However, Secretary General Ana María Velarde sent a letter to the member of the Lava Jato special team urging him to respect the administrative order that only authorizes spokesperson Víctor Cubas to speak before the press.

“The aforementioned regulatory document establishes the guidelines and procedures of the official spokesperson, as well as the limits of authorization for prosecutors to provide statements and appear before the media, in order to guarantee clear, precise and relevant institutional communication that contributes with the strengthening of the institutional image and reputation”, reads the document accessed Peru21.

As is known, the Constitutional Court ordered the effective collaboration agreement signed between the Prosecutor’s Office and Odebrecht in 2019 to be made public.

The decision raised questions about the prosecutors of the special team, led by Rafael Vela, for keeping the document of more than a thousand pages confidential.
