Santo Domingo. – The Director of Prosecution of the Public Ministry, Wilson Camachotogether with the head of the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for the Prosecution of Administrative Corruption (PEPCA), Mirna Ortizthe interrogation of the former head of the National Health Insurance (Senasa), Santiago Hazimin relation to alleged acts of administrative corruption in the state insurance company.
In addition to the former official, he is also being interrogated Eduardo Readof the Read Group, investigated for the signing of a contract for billions of pesos for primary care services under the insurer’s subsidized regime.
Hazim arrived at the Attorney General’s Office with his lawyer, Miguel Valeriominutes before 5:00 in the afternoon. Around 7:00 at night, businessman Read arrived accompanied by his legal representative, whose name is still unknown.
The jurist also attended Ingrid Hidalgo with his client, whose identity has not been provided so far.
After 10:00 at night, the president of the Chapter House of the Council of Aldermen of Guayacanes, John Hazim Brugalbrought food and two coats to the former head of Senasa.
Months of research
September was key for the investigations surrounding the case. During that period, the superintendent of Health and Occupational Risks (Sisalril), Miguel Ceara Hattonand the newly appointed executive director of the National Health Insurance, Edward Guzmandelivered to the Attorney General’s Office a report with “serious findings” of irregularities detected in the ARS.
The officials delivered the report to the Attorney General of the Republic, Yeni Berenice Reynosoby instructions of the president Luis Abinaderso that the “corresponding mechanisms” can proceed.
In one of the editions of La Semanal with La Prensa, President Abinader stated that it was the Government itself that asked the Public Ministry in November 2024 to investigate alleged irregularities in Senasa, and warned that anyone who has stolen public funds, especially from health areashould face “drastic consequences” before Justice.
