Prosecutor Tarek William Saab corrected in 61 the number of people arrested for various cases of corruption in Venezuela, after having previously reported that those arrested for the plots amounted to 80
The prosecutor appointed by the now-defunct constituent assembly, Tarek William Saab, reported on Wednesday, April 19, that up to that moment there had been a total of 61 deprived of liberty for the various corruption schemes that have been uncovered in various state companies, where the most notable are the “PDVSA Cripto” and “CVG” cases.
Saab indicated in its social networks that there are 20 arrest warrants to be executed and that 172 raids have been recorded for the different cases of corruption.

However, in messages posted at 12:30 am on April 19, Saab pointed out that, after the presentation of the former vice president of Petróleos de Venezuela (PDVSA) Ysmel Serrano along with two other people, there were 80 prisoners; but that message was modified according to the journalist Gabriela Gonzalez.

Prosecutor Saab’s pronouncement was registered in the scope of the presentation of Highlander in the hearing before a special anti-corruption court for the plots of PDVSA Cripto and Cartones de Venezuela; together with Salem Hassoun Atrach, allegedly linked to the case of PDVSA and the Superintendence of Cryptoactives (Sunacrip), and Leonel Azuaje, the latter for alleged acts of corruption in the state-owned Cartones de Venezuela, the public media indicated.
At that time, Tarek William Saab explained that after the arrest of these three people they had already requested 56 arrest warrants and 107 searches for the PDVSA Cripto case; 14 arrest warrants and 51 searches throughout the country for the CVG plot and three arrest warrants and seven searches for the Cartones de Venezuela case.

Despite the fact that the prosecutor constantly shares information, there are few clear and concrete details about the extent of the corruption scheme investigated. Until now, Saab has not confirmed the amount of money that the embezzlement of public funds would accumulate with these cases, beyond the $3,000 million related to “Pdvsa Cripto”, based on information that was released in media related to Chavismo.
According to data from the civil association Transparencia Venezuela, only four investigation processes are being carried out on acts of corruption in Pdvsa, which compromise $9,394 million of the more than $68,300 million that, according to international investigations, it is estimated would have been extracted through acts of corruption.
