Prosecutor's Office begins preliminary investigation against Julio Demartini for alleged poisoning of Qali Warma

The Attorney General’s Office, through the Area of Illicit Enrichment and Constitutional Complaints, initiated a preliminary investigation against Julio Demartini Montesholder of Ministry of Development and Social Inclusion (Midis).

“The president underwent a surgical procedure, but she was not neglecting the duties that correspond to her in office,” said Otárola.

Additionally, it includes Jessica Niño de Guzmán Esainein her capacity as Vice Minister of Social Benefits of Midis. Both are considered alleged perpetrators of the crimes of omission, refusal and delay of functional acts to the detriment of the State.

The Prosecutor’s Office details that the facts refer to an alleged case of food poisoning in schoolchildren who consumed food from the Qali Warma National School Feeding Program in the regions of Puno and Cajamarca that involves officials from the aforementioned program and the Regional Health Directorate (Diresa), representatives of the company Frigoinca SAC, among others.

TOMORROW IS INTERPELLATION

This Tuesday morning, before the Prosecutor’s Office’s statement, Minister Demartini asked, at the last minute, to reschedule his summons to the Congressional Oversight Commission, which was scheduled for today.

The president of the parliamentary commission, Juan Burgos, reported that Demartini requested to reschedule the hearing established at 9:00 am, because “he has a very large agenda.” However, the congressman considered that the minister “has to respond to the political sphere.”

“We are the ones who carry out political control and he had to come to respond. He is probably saving himself for the questioning that is going to be done to him,” he told RPP.

Demartini was saved from the Oversight Commission, but not from the Plenary Session of Congress. Tomorrow he will have to go to Parliament at 6:00 pm to respond to the 130 congressmen about the situation of the Qali Warma program, among other issues.
