The Prosecutor’s Office requested on Monday the extradition of the leader of the Mapuche Ancestral Resistance (RAM), Facundo Jones Hualabefore the Court of Appeals of Valdivia. Police in Río Negro, Argentina, arrested him at the end of January, after spending nearly a year on the run. He is currently detained in the trans-Andean country.
According Bio Bio RadioThe prosecutor Sergio Fuentes He asked the appellate court for the prior arrest of the convicted person and that the extradition can be processed. The pronouncement of the Court of Appeals could take a few days.

Conviction and escape of Jones Huala
Let us remember that the Chilean justice system sentenced Jones Huala in December 2018 to nine years in prison. This, due to his participation in an attack on the Pisu Pisué farm in January 2013, in the commune of Río Bueno, Los Ríos Region.
The Temuco Court of Appeals accepted in 2022 an amparo appeal filed by Jones Huala’s defense and ordered his conditional release. The Supreme Court revoked the benefit three weeks later and ordered his recapture. However, it was untraceable.
After nearly a year on the run, the Río Negro Police arrested the leader of the RAM group at dawn on January 30, in the town of El Bolsón, Argentina.
“In the procedure, the members of the Río Negro Police caught Jones Huala while he was hiding in the barbecue area of the house of a neighbor from the La Esperanza neighborhood,” the Río Negro government said in a statement.
