At the end of August, the Public Ministry denounced that around 400 checks, used as evidence, in the Ramón González Daher case, were stolen from the Judiciary. The papers were part of the case of usury, money laundering and false complaint where the former sports manager was linked.
To this situation, a new complaint against Daher was added. In mid-December, businessman Alberto Antebi claimed that the defendant used guarantee checks to continue extorting him. These papers were part of the batch that checks stolen from the judicial body.
Therefore, on December 22, the Public Ministry raided the former sports leader’s home. After the operation, Natalia Cacavelos, prosecutor in the case, requested the indictment of Daher for the punishable acts of breach of the deposit, as an instigator and extortion, as the author.
On Monday, Gustavo Amarilla, judge in the case, admitted the accusation and set the hearing for the imposition of measures for Thursday, January 13. Here, the former president of the Paraguayan Football Association (APF), can receive a new order of preventive detention, which he will have to fulfill, probably, in the Tacumbú prison.
If the case is raised to an oral and public trial, and the accused is found guilty, he is exposed to a penalty of up to five years in prison. However, you can comply with them at the same time as the 15 you have already received in the case of usury, laundering and false reporting. In other words, they are not summative.

Esther Roa, a social activist, celebrated the first 15-year sentence. But he questioned that the obvious court would order the prisoner of the condemned, thereby demonstrating a weakness.
“Although it is true, the convicted had completed the minimum sentence, the court had to request preventive detention. In any case, the defense could request the review of the precautionary measure in another procedural stay ”, he affirmed.
The lawyer explains that the figure of “breach of the deposit” only establishes a penalty of five years. And the figure of “extortion” has an equal expectation of five years.
“Another weakness that I find in Cacavelos is that he does not order the immediate imprisonment of González Daher. He throws the criminal judge of guarantees the responsibility. The judge, as there is no detainee, sets the hearing for January 13. She could order the arrest, but she did not, ”he lamented.
Roa points out that Daher must have been behind bars a long time ago. But, due to the fear that exists in the judicial sphere, towards the corrupt political class, the representatives of justice are not more severe with him.
“Apparently it falls, but the system subsists. Judges and prosecutors are afraid. Chicken thieves are quickly stopped. But people like González Daher cannot be sent behind bars ”, he questioned.
