The investigation carried out by the Prosecutor’s Office on alleged irregularities in the agreement with the company Katoen Natie to extend the concession of the container terminal in the port of Montevideo, would be archived for lack of evidence.
The Belgian company had signed an agreement with the government to extend said concession until 2081. In September 2021, the Broad Front filed a complaint against four leaders of the current government, denouncing that the agreement is detrimental to the State.
The accused were the president of the National Ports Administration, Juan Curbelo, the deputy secretary of the Presidency, Rodrigo Ferrés, the undersecretary of Transportation and Public Works, Juan José Olaizola, and who was the Minister of Transportation and Public Works when the agreement was signed, Luis Alberto Heber.
According to what was learned, the prosecutor for Economic and Complex Crimes, Gilberto Rodríguez, has already completed the investigation and would have his file due to lack of evidence. The final report will be presented next week. For this case, the above-mentioned hierarchs had been called to testify.
