Prosecutor warns the population

In order to obtain personal data for criminal purposes, the Judiciary and the Public Ministry are invoked

The Office of the Attorney General of the Nation issued a warning to the population yesterday Tuesday, given the multiple queries received from people who stated that they received false emails in which the Judiciary and the Office of the Attorney General of the Nation are invoked, under the mention of “investigative order ” or “temporary file”.

“This is a maneuver that seeks to obtain the personal data of the recipients,” explained the Public Ministry in a statement.

“Although a careful reading allows us to appreciate the differences of the official emails of both institutions, it can also be confusing in certain circumstances, for which the population is urged not to open the email and, in case of doing so inadvertently, not to download no file or enter any link, since it is a form of phishing,” he added.

In this sense, they clarified that the situation is already in the orbit of the Specialized Unit in Cybercrime and the Information Technology Department of the Prosecutor’s Office.

“Finally, it is recalled that the domain name in the emails of the Office of the Attorney General of the Nation is @fiscalia.gub.uy”, indicated the Public Ministry.
