Prosecutor Saab reported that 225 freedom measures were granted to political prisoners

Public Prosecutor's Office reports 1,062 arrests in post-election protests

According to prosecutor Saab, the measures granted to several detainees during the post-election protests were issued after requesting the courts to review the cases. Since the early hours of Saturday the 16th, the release of political prisoners in various prisons began. Alfredo Romero, director of the Penal Forum, said that as of 7:00 pm on Saturday there were 107 political prisoners released from prison.


The attorney general, Tarek William Saab, assured that between the afternoon of Friday, November 15 and Saturday, November 16, they were “awarded and executed.” 225 freedom measures for detainees during the post-election protests on July 28.

Through social networks, the Prosecutor’s Office reported that “these measures were requested in accordance with article 285 of the Constitution of the Republic based on exhaustive investigations based on new evidence and elements of evidence collected by prosecutors.”

According to what was indicated by prosecutor Saab, “the freedoms granted are the product of the joint work of the Public Ministry and the Judiciary, and no so-called NGO organization can award them as a result, with the subsequent purpose of using a work and result that “It is not their responsibility: to continue requesting ‘financing’ from foreign industries such as Red Atlas, Ned and USAID.”

On Friday the 15th, Tarek William Saab announced the review of 225 measures imposed on citizens detained for the protests of the 29th and 30th of last July, which arose to reject the results announced by the National Electoral Council (CNE), in those in which President Nicolás Maduro was named the winner of the presidential elections.

Since the early hours of Saturday the 16th, the release of political prisoners began in the Yare III prisons, the La Crisálida Training Center for Female Prosecuted Women (Miranda state), Tocorón (Aragua) and Tocuyito (Carabobo). According to Alfredo Romero, director of the Penal Forum, as of 7:00 pm that day there were 107 political prisoners released.

On Tuesday, November 12, the Attorney General’s Office promised to accelerate criminal proceedings against adolescents and young people detained after July 28, after the ruler Nicolás Maduro requested to “rectify” if there were errors in the arrests during the post-election protests.
