What should be a session to present the final arguments of both parties – the Public Ministry and the defense of the accused – became the presentation of a complementary accusation by the prosecutor Gino Quiroz.
Bermejo, also known as ‘Comrade Che’, is being investigated for his income –between 2008 and 2009– to the terrorist camps of the bloodthirsty Quispe Palomino, according to protected witnesses and police reports.

A new audience
During the beginning of the hearing, the prosecutor Gino Quiroz presented a complementary accusation for the case, ensuring that the information “corresponds to a new fact that refers to the previous meetings of Mr. Bermejo in Ayacucho” before, the now legislator, enters to terrorist camps.

Peru21 consulted with the criminal lawyer Luis Lamas Puccio about the meaning of presenting a complementary accusation during the trial.
The lawyer indicated that “its objective is to give greater weight to the main accusation, in the sense that if obviously they are facts that will strengthen the investigation, it is preferable to delay the allegations one or two more weeks because it will give greater consistency to the accusation. fiscal”.
On the other hand, the specialist explained that, despite the extension of the case, this does not mean that witnesses and evidence have to be presented again since “the accusation is presented with respect to the main evidence” and this cannot be changed.
“The Prosecutor’s Office must have evaluated whether it was worth giving greater irrefutable consistency to that second accusation; this must be accompanied by other elements that generate much greater conviction ”, he assured.
Lamas Puccio said that the new hearings in this case do not favor the defendant Bermejo, because with the testimonial evidence presented, he does not consider “that he will gain more time based on what the prosecution is raising.”
The congressman, a former member of the Peru Libre bench, denies each of the statements made by the authorities.
