Prosecutor of the Nation opens investigation to Vicente Romero for intervention in San Marcos

Patricia Benavides preliminarily imputes the alleged crime of omission of functional acts to the Minister of the Interior, Vicente Romero, for the violent intervention of the PNP in the UNMSM.

The National Prosecutor Patricia Benavidesbegan this Tuesday, January 24, a preliminary investigation against the Minister of the Interior, Vicente Romero, for the intervention of members of the National Police of Peru on the National University of San Marcos to evict students and demonstrators who were protesting against the government of the president Dina Boluarte. Head of the Public Ministry charges him with the commission of the alleged crime of omission of functional acts to the detriment of the State.

The preliminary investigations began after Romero assured that he learned of the operation in the Dean of America by watching television. According to the official, the use of a police tank and the deployment of hundreds of troops took place without being notified.

“There was no political decision because that was a decision clearly made by the Police that it has had. I found out when I was watching the intervention on television. They have done it for flagrante delicto,” he told Exitosa.
