Prosecutor of the Nation, Delia Espinoza, asks Congress to process 16 constitutional complaints

Delia Espinoza

Through a letter sent to the president of the Congress of the RepublicEduardo Salhuana, the nation’s prosecutor, Delia Espinozarequested that in said branch of the State the corresponding process be given to a total of 16 constitutional complaints that have been pending since January of this year.

The document is dated November 28 and has the “very urgent” stamp. So far, however, neither Salhuana nor any other member of the Board of Directors has commented on the matter.

Peru21 had access to the list of the 16 tax files that the National Prosecutor’s Office has successively sent to the Congress of the Republic since January 25, almost a year ago.

The list includes nine parliamentarians who have complaints for the crimes of fraudulent embezzlement and incompatible negotiation, without distinction. They make up five of the 13 benches constituted in Parliament.

These are four legislators from Podemos Peru: Jorge Flores Ancachi, Heidy Juárez, Edgar Tello and José Arriola; from Alliance for Progress (APP): Magaly Ruiz and Rosío Torres; Roselli Amuruz from Avanza País, Katy Ugarte from the Magisterial Block and María Córdova from Renovación Popular.

In most cases, these are parliamentarians who have been denounced at the time for cutting the salaries of their office workers.

The long list of pending cases sent to the head of Parliament also includes the President of the Republic, Dina Boluartefor the alleged crime of qualified homicide and three other complaints against his predecessor Pedro Castillo for illegal appointment and embezzlement of use.

Currently, it should be remembered, the president of the Subcommittee on Constitutional Accusations of Congress, which is in charge of processing precisely the constitutional complaints sent by the Attorney General’s Office, is María Acuña. She is a member of the Alliance for Progress, along with two of the nine legislators with pending cases.

Likewise, it is worth mentioning that on December 15 the legislature officially comes to an end. Parliamentary activities will only resume in the next period that begins on March 1, 2025.
