In a demonstration of firmness against crime, the prosecutor Miriam Maribel Parra Sudariofrom the Second Office of the Seventh Corporate Provincial Prosecutor’s Office Specialized in Violence against Women of Lima Norte, officially spoke out after the recent attempted murder of which she was a victim. Despite the seriousness of the attack, recorded by security cameras, the magistrate assured that the intimidations will not stop her investigations into femicides and sexual violence against minors.
“I will never allow any type of threat. I will continue to fulfill my role and will never allow any type of abuse, or any type of fallacy against me or my family,” he stated.
The prosecutor recognized that, although there is a natural fear due to the dangerousness of the cases she handles, her duty to the institution and society prevails. “A prosecutor has to obtain the evidence that we need to present. My role being in this chair is with fear, however, I will continue working,” he stated, emphasizing that the Public Ministry will fulfill its “always” role.
A planned attack
The incident occurred on December 11, when two individuals on a motorcycle intercepted the prosecutor while she was walking on a public road. Thanks to the quick reaction of his police escort, who drew his weapon to scare away the attackers, a tragedy was avoided.
For prosecutor Parra, this was not an isolated event, but rather a direct message from criminal organizations seeking to stop their work. “I appreciate the support you have been giving me. The message I received on December 11 is quite clear and precise; you know perfectly well what I do and where I live,” he said with determination.
Investigations and security
Currently, the case is in the hands of the Homicide Division of the Peruvian National Police (PNP), under charges of attempted homicide, marking and regulation. Parra Sudario highlighted the police work, but made an urgent call to reinforce their protection.
“I have always found full support from the police, for which I am grateful, waiting for the prompt response regarding my request to increase police protection,” he said. Likewise, he indicated that he has held meetings with his coordinator and the president of the Lima Norte Board of Prosecutors to address his situation of vulnerability.
Finally, the prosecutor expressed her confidence that the authorities will take the necessary measures to safeguard her life. “I trust that my security and integrity will be impeccable and I will not suffer any major altercation,” he concluded.
