The Public Ministry opened an investigation to clarify the complaint related to the rape of a student from the San Cristóbal Minor Seminary (tachira).
The information was disclosed by the Diocese of San Cristóbal through a statement. “Unfortunately, those accused are minors, also students of the Minor Seminary. Thanks to the actions of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, with the cooperation of the Seminary Directorate, they could be contacted and they were placed at the order of the corresponding authorities”, refers to the document posted on the Instagram site of the Tachirense diocese.
The seminarian’s mother was the one who reported the incident to the management of the institution in charge of training future priests. Apparently, her 14-year-old son was sexually abused by five 16-year-old students.
“After receiving the complaint, weighing the seriousness of the facts indicated and consulting with specialized advisors in the field of law, on June 3, 2023, the Seminary Directorate registered the aforementioned complaint before the Public ministry in San Cristobal. From that moment on, the activation of the Public Prosecutor’s Office to attend to the denounced situation is publicly recognized”, indicates the statement where it is specified that the direction of the seminar collaborated with the prosecutors who are investigating the fact “which allowed us to obtain the first results in a short time”. .
The Diocese of San Cristóbal says it repudiates “this embarrassing episode that tarnishes the image of the Minor Seminary.”
In August 2022, the Public Ministry reported the accusation against the priest Nepomuceno Hernández, accused of sexually assaulting a teenager inside the San Cristóbal Hermitage.
According to what was reported by the prosecutionthe priest was drunk when he subdued the 13-year-old girl.
