Prosecutor Alicia Sapriza asked State Attorney General Sandra Quiñónez to open a criminal investigation into Amílcar Fretes, son of the president of the Supreme Court of Justice, Antonio Fretes, in the case of Kassen Mohamad Hijazi.
Sapriza requests that a fiscal agent be appointed to investigate everything related to Amílcar Fretes and the legal representation contract that he signed with Hijazi, to see if any punishable act was committed and if so, to charge him.
For the prosecutor Alicia Sapriza, there are many elements that must be investigated in this case where Hijazi paid US$ 60,000 to Amílcar Fretes so that they put together a criminal process that prevents the extradition of the Lebanese to the United States.
The scandal also splashed the President of the Court Antonio Fretes who gave a press conference and distanced himself from his son of whom he said that he does not have much communication and that he does not know what cases he is handling.

“Communication with my children is little, almost nil. I have one with whom I deal the most, who is always around me, who has nothing to do with the Judiciary. With Amílcar my communication is not fluidNor can I be aware of the cases that he may have,” said the Minister of Court.
In the meantime In the political sphere, there is talk of initiating a political trial against Antonio Freteswho also referred to that point, alleging that it has nothing to do with his son’s cases and that at the moment he did not intend to resign from the position of Minister of Court.
Kassen Mohamad Hijazi, was extradited last June to the United Statesafter the Court rejected his last resort to avoid responding to the country’s justice that required him for tax evasion, money laundering and illegal currency remittance.
