A total of 540 men have been convicted of feminicide in Venezuela in the last seven years, according to data offered this Wednesday by the Attorney General, Tarek William Saab, during a conference held by the Public Ministry regarding Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Mother.
In a review of his management in the Public Ministry (as of 2017), the official indicated that the institution has registered 1,279 cases related to this crime, of which 938 resulted in accusations against feminicides.
On the other hand, in these seven years, 6,102 subjects were convicted of violence against women, the MP made 62,671 charges in that period and granted 549,872 protection and security measures in favor of the victims.
Saab called to report any act of sexist violence to the MP, which has 70 prosecutor’s offices specialized in this type of crimes against women, as well as a “comprehensive approach service” for victims.
In that sense, the prosecutor expressed that there should be no “conciliation” and that, on the contrary, the cases should be reported, given the risk that the perpetrator will reoffend and there will be a “fatal end.”
Last Sunday, Saab stated that the Attorney General’s Office received a total of 317,584 complaints about cases of sexist violence since 2017, which reveals that – on average – at least 100 new reports are registered every day.
