Promperú: Tourism sector will contribute 2.5% to economic growth in 2022

The tourism sector will contribute 2.5% to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) this year favored by its reactivation process, as projected by the executive president of the Commission for the Promotion of Peru for Exports and Tourism (Promperú), Amora Carbajal.

During the First Meeting of Investments in Tourism: Innovation and Sustainability, the official emphasized that this economic activity has been reactivating at the national and international level after having been one of the most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and announced that our country could receive this year around 1.5 million foreign tourists generating a foreign exchange income of US$ 2,000 million at the end of 2022.

Regarding domestic tourism, Carbajal projected that the traveler flow would exceed 24 million trips this year and that, thanks to this, the economic movement would amount to more than US$ 2,500 million this year.

As a result of these forecasts, the president of Promperu estimated that total direct and indirect employment in this sector reaches one million people nationwide.

However, he commented that, despite these indicators, which show the reactivation process of the sector, there is a long way to go towards recovery to pre-pandemic levels.
