Santo Domingo.– Engineer Ramón Alburquerque Ramírez, a figure in Dominican public life, died, his daughter, Mónica Alburquerque, reported this Thursday through a publication on social networks.
“Today, with our hearts in our hands, we say goodbye to our beloved father, Eng. Ramón Alburquerque Ramírez, honored to be his children,” he said.
The prominent politician and leader of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM), 76 years old, had liver cancer and in recent weeks he had continued to receive specialized care and clinical follow-up in New York City, returning to the country on January 19.
In her message, Mónica Alburquerque highlighted the personal values and the legacy of his father, whom he defined as “a man of firm principles, visionary ideas, unbreakable spirit and an immense love for your family and your country”.
“Your beautiful legacy will continue with us as an internal compass to guide us always. Rest in peace,” he concluded.
Alburquerque’s return to Creole soil was under the instruction to follow his medical treatment in the country, so since his arrival he was admitted to the Advanced Medicine and Telemedicine Diagnostic Center (Cedimat).
Alburquerque held relevant positions in the country’s political life, including Senate presidency and the Ministry of Economyin addition to having been presidential candidate. He was widely appreciated for his solid academic traininghis capacity for analysis and his firm commitment to strengthening the national democracy.
