Promevi Program improves the lives of families in Ciudad Colonial

Within the revitalization program of the Colonial City that execute the Ministry of Tourismthe European Union and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) in the historic center, 24 of the 38 homes corresponding to the first stage have already been delivered, of a total of 140 buildings that will be intervened.

The project is executed by the Comprehensive Tourism Development Program and Urban Colonial City of Santo Domingo (PIDTUCCSD), with the objective of preserving the permanence of its traditional residents and improving their quality of life.

He Home Improvement Program in Colonial City (Promevi) has a total investment of 5.2 million dollars and mainly benefits low income families from sectors such as San Antón, Santa Bárbara, San Miguel, San Lázaro and the southern area of ​​the Colonial City.

  • The program prioritizes gender equality, especially favoring women heads of household, as well as the elderly and people with disabilities. In addition, it incorporates sustainability criteria and adaptation to climate change through structural improvements, energy efficiency and water savings.

The interventions

The work carried out in the homes includes the bathroom reconstruction and kitchens, correction of leaks, repair of ceilings and covers, renovation of electrical and sanitary installations, structural reinforcement -when appropriate-, replacement of doors and windows -when necessary-, as well as waterproofing and painting general.

Likewise, water saving and the use of less polluting construction materials are promoted, complying with the EDGE certificationenvironmental regulations that guide reconstructions.
