Although Mexico not necessarily a country of destination
for migrants who transit through national territory, now the times of stay are longer, so the government has to provide accommodation, basic services, jobs and prioritize mechanisms for a regular stay, said Miguel Ángel Aguilar Dorado, coordinator of the Center for Immigration Studies of the Immigration Policy, Registration and Identity of Persons Unit, dependent on the Ministry of the Interior.
During the first day of the International Migration Review Forum, which takes place in New York, the official maintained that restrictive policies in destination countries generate irregular steps that are increasingly costly and dangerous for migrants. This causes, in turn, the inclusion of other actors, such as organized crime or traffickers.
He said that according to an investigation by that agency, migrants from Central America pay about 4,325 dollars to human traffickers to pass through the Sonoran desert to Arizona. These crime networks are not limited to Mexico and Central America, they are groups that come from Brazil and have ties to more countries. We are talking about multifocal processes
he added.
In the forum, representatives of different nations participate in the global intergovernmental platform to discuss and share the progress of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration, said the Ministry of the Interior.
