Electoral councilors indicate that it is a “political issue” and that the Law to open the polls last February was not complied with.
Accusations of a possible electoral fraud had ceased and not even the former presidential candidates discussed it, but the issue returned to the public scene a month ago. Legislators of Pachakutik Joel Abad and Mario Ruiz They presented a request for political prosecution against the electoral authorities for the last electoral process.

In the document that the two delivered to the Secretary of the Assembly on November 11, they ask for sanctions for non-fulfillment of functions against the president of the CNE, Diana Atamaint; the members Enrique Pita, José Cabrera and Esthela Acero. In their request they also included former councilor Luis Verdesoto, who is now a presidential adviser.
The ‘issue is political’

- That there is inconsistency between the copy of the minutes that they deliver to the political organization and the original.
These grounds were not met in most casesCabrera said. “If we open the polls for any type of complaints that are not supported, andThen we would never finish the elections ”.
In the request for impeachment, the legislators also point out a possible breach of functions of the directors for not cleaning the last electoral roll which they consider inflated. Ruiz explained that the projections of the INEC and the data that the CNE has as a registry are different. “There are 1.2 million ghost voters,” he said. This, despite the fact that the electoral authority works with the data provided by the Civil Registry.
In the last point of the request for judgment, the interpellants indicate that there is also no control of the supporters or adherents of the 283 political organizations. On this point, Cabrera indicated that they seek to work with high-tech equipment that allows them to have a detailed record and avoid inconsistencies in the registration of parties and movements.
The Supervisory Board must evacuate the political judgments raised previously by other assembly members against the Bank Superintendents, Ruth Arregui; the State Comptroller General, Carlos Alberto Riofrío; and the attorney, Íñigo Salvador. Only later will he take the file against the four CNE councilors.
