Senator Isabel Zuleta remains firm with the idea of revive the figure of re-election in Colombia.

The congresswoman of the Historic Pact announced this Monday that prepares a draft constitutional reform which would not only cover presidents, but also governors and mayors. According to the report, the text and the argumentative basis for its presentation this semester are already ready.
“It is a draft legislative act in which we seek to reform the constitution to make possible the reelection not only of the President of the Republic, but also of governors and mayors.”Zuleta said.
The legislator also indicated that this initiative has been motivated by the current situation in the regions. “Today we have a particular situation in the territories and it is that the mayors, as also happened with former President Duque, are giving orders in someone else’s voice. This mandate in someone else’s voice or in someone else’s body is not convenient for democracy,” he highlighted.

Along the same lines, he stressed the importance of involving jurists and former judges who have had a tradition in these discussions. “Well, they have already discussed what the replacement of the Constitution is and what are the limits that we congressmen have to present reforms.”
It should be noted that this is not the first time that Senator Zuleta has addressed this issue. In previous months he declared that although President Gustavo Petro does not support the project, Several members of the Historic Pact do.
