Elevado Presidente João Goulart, known as Minhocão, will receive the PrEP na Rua project until 3 pm today (27). The action is part of a set of activities integrated to the 1st of December, World Aids Day. The goal is to serve the population that wants to start using pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), in addition to performing rapid tests for HIV and removing condoms, lubricating gel and self-test kits.
“Projeto PrEP na Rua seeks to expand access to this other form of HIV prevention, especially for the most vulnerable segments of the population. PrEP consists of the continuous use of antiretroviral drugs (in the form of a pill a day), so that, if there is exposure to the virus, the person is already protected’, says the city hall.
According to the City of São Paulo, the person interested in receiving PrEP will be welcomed by a health professional to assess their eligibility for prophylaxis. A rapid HIV test and another creatinine measurement test will be done to assess possible kidney problems.
The result of the HIV test is provided by a professional in an isolated location, confidentially. If it is positive, a new test is carried out and if it is confirmed, the person is referred to a health unit specialized in STI/AIDS.
The service is being offered at Avenida Angélica, close to the Marechal Deodoro Station ramp.
