Prohibition in Venezuela 2024: when and at what time does it start?

The presidential election in Venezuela, are in their final stretch. The oil country is preparing for ratify the government of Nicolás Maduro or choose who would be its next president.

For this reason, the authorities have decreed a series of security measures to guarantee the proper conduct of the electoral day held this Sunday, July 28. Among them is the well-known “Dry Law” or restriction on the sale of alcoholic beverages.

To communicate security initiatives during the elections in Venezuela, the Ministry of Defense and Interior published a resolution detailing the procedures for that date.

What are the measures imposed by Prohibition in Venezuela?

The Ministries of Defense and Interior and Justice issued a joint resolution dated July 18, detailing the conditions to be met between July 26 and 29. This resolution refers to the Prohibition Law, the carrying of weapons and the closure of borders.

The Organic Law on Electoral Processes in Venezuela establishes regulatory mechanisms that are incumbent on citizens. Among them, article 130, which prohibits the sale and distribution of alcoholic beverages. Likewise, the carrying of firearms and knives is suspended.

The regulations also specify that security forces must close any establishment that disregards the ban on selling alcoholic beverages during this period.

According to the decree, the holding of public meetings or events is prohibited from 24 hours before the voting act until after its completion.

In addition, according to the seven-article resolution, the Strategic Operational Command of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (Ceofanb) will be responsible for safeguarding the inviolability of land, air and sea borders.

Ten candidates will compete in the upcoming presidential elections, including the current head of state, Nicolás Maduro, and the candidate of the MUD, Edmundo González Urrutia.

This decree is due to take effect between July 26 and 29. This resolution refers to the Prohibition, the carrying of weapons and the closure of borders.

What time does the restriction start?

The restriction on the sale of alcoholic beverages, known in Venezuela as the “Dry Law,” begins at 11:59 PM on Friday, July 26 and ends at the same time on Monday, July 29 (11:59 PM), according to the aforementioned letter dated July 18.
