Progreso, Yuc., President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo reported that investigations into the murder of priest Marcelo Pérez Pérez began yesterday, and that the Secretary of the Interior, Rosa Icela Rodríguez Velázquez, was in contact with local and ecclesiastical authorities.

He added that this Monday he will delve into the topic in the morning of the town, in the National Palace.

In an eventful interview, at the end of a public event in this municipality, he gave a brief statement about this crime that occurred in San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas.

The Secretary of the Interior has already been in contact.

–What preliminary information do you have?

On this tour of the southeast, among other members of the federal cabinet, she was accompanied by the Secretary of the Interior, who from here regretted the murder on social media and said that there will be no impunity.

“We regret the events in which Father Marcelo Pérez Pérez lost his life. Our solidarity with the Catholic community and the commitment of the @GobiernoMX that there will be no impunity,” said Rodríguez Velázquez after yesterday morning armed individuals shot and killed the priest of the Guadalupe temple.

The governor condemns the despondency

The governor of Chiapas, Rutilio Escandón Cadenas, and the secretary of Planning and Territorial Ordering of Mexico City, Alejandro Encinas Rodríguez, repudiated the murder of the priest Marcelo Pérez Pérez.

The Morenoist president stated in his social network account X: I condemn and regret the cowardly murder of Father Marcelo Pérez, we will collaborate with all the corresponding authorities so that his death does not go unpunished and the guilty face justice.

For his part, Encinas Rodríguez, former Undersecretary of Human Rights, Population and Migration, also stated in X: I regret the sensitive murder of Father Marcelo, with whom we worked closely for peace and the defense of human rights in Chiapas. I hope that the state authorities clarify and punish those responsible for this cunning homicide and that measures are taken to stop the violence in the state..
