A few hours before the referendum on 135 articles of the Law of Urgent Consideration, a piece of news emerged that generated unease in the sports field, after the police reported a “raid” on the official store of Club Atlético Progreso, which is active in the Second Professional Division of Uruguayan soccer.
The manager of the official Progreso store filmed the police procedure.
After the events, the Board of Directors of Club Atlético Progreso issued a statement in which it expresses its “absolute repudiation of the unnecessary police action” on Friday, March 25, on the occasion of the match that the team from La Teja played with Club Atlético Closed. In it, the “removal of badges that were part of the personal attire of some fans” was requested.
Likewise, the Commission expresses its “dissatisfaction with the magazine carried out in the official store of the club, indicating that they were looking for material of a political nature.”
“We consider an unjustified and overwhelming proceeding, unprecedented and that, as we understand, was only carried out in our sports arena,” denounced Progreso.
