Profonanpe will grant up to US$600 thousand to Amazon conservation businesses

With the aim of promoting the sustainable development of the Peruvian Amazon, the private environmental fund Profonanpe launched the Amazon Bioinvestment 2026 contest through which it will finance, for a total amount of up to US$600,000, biobusinesses that contribute to the restoration of forests and the reduction of greenhouse gases in six regions of the country.

The meeting is part of the official agenda of the head of state and has been informed by the Presidency of the Republic.

This initiative seeks not only to strengthen the business models of the winning companies, but also to generate an environmental and social impact. In this sense, it is expected that, in the next ten years, the promotion of sustainable biobusinesses will contribute to mitigating climate change through the conservation and restoration of 81 thousand hectares of Amazon forest, the generation of 550 green jobs and the mitigation of 1.9 million tons of carbon dioxide (CO²).

This edition of Amazonian Bioinversion, promoted in alliance with the Ministry of the Environment (Minam) and financed by the Green Climate Fund, will focus on strengthening the biobusinesses of Amazonas, Loreto, San Martín, Madre de Dios, Cusco and Puno and will prioritize topics linked to agricultural production under agroforestry systems, timber and non-timber forestry, ecotourism and wildlife management.

The companies that are chosen will receive partially refundable seed capital, ranging from US$ 50,000 to US$ 150,000 for each beneficiary organization and which have a period of up to seven years to return a percentage of the amount granted.

In addition to financing, the selected biobusinesses will be part of a business advisory program to strengthen their capabilities in topics such as finance and operations, strategic planning and marketing so that they are prepared to interact effectively with potential investors.
