Due to a change in the list, lists 7 and 11 are called to vote this Wednesday the 10th
In an extremely complex moment, the more than 78,000 affiliated university professionals, between active and passive, will be in a position to vote to elect the new Board of Directors of the Professionals Fund.
The election takes place this Wednesday, December 10. In Melo, the Vote Receiving Commission will be installed at the premises of the Departmental Electoral Office, 778 Aparicio Saravia Street, to operate between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. In cities or towns where there are no tables, those interested will be able to vote through the Uruguayan Post Office on the same day of the election.
List 7 in Liabilities – headed by Architect María del Carmen Domínguez – and No. 11 in Assets – led by Dr. Pablo De Barros – is presented as an option for change in the CPU, perhaps in times of greater fragility in the institution.
“Until now the participation of professionals in the voting has been very low, in fact, we have had representatives with very few votes. We already know what the consequences of not going to the elections are: the same people always ended up winning and they ended up not taking measures in time as they should have done and today we are all paying the consequences of being within a system that is outdated, a system that has not accompanied the demographic factors, which is not accompanying the technological factors either.” stated the Dentist Pablo de Barros.
He said to THE DIARY PROFESSIONAL that at this moment the Professional Fund is a kind of Ponzi Scheme. “It is unsustainable and we must try to change it, that is why I believe that it is everyone’s responsibility to be able to go vote to try to turn this around and change the model” held.
IMPACTS OF THE DEMOGRAPHIC SITUATION
“The UN is announcing that by 2064, we will have 41% of people under the age of 13, while there will be 71% more people over 65” revealed who heads List Number 11. “For 4 years in Uruguay, more people have been dying than are being born. In fact, last year there were 6,000 more people who died than were born” broad.
“What this brings is that the current system, which is nothing more than a promise that you will pay, which becomes paying a tax, a tax that is used to pay the liabilities. They tell you: depending on what you pay, I promise that when you get to retire I will give you as much.” he pointed out. “That is a promise that is based solely on faith and that the people, and those who conduct all this, know that it is going to be impossible to fulfill” he asserted.
“How can they not comply because the numbers don’t work, what they do is charge you a tax on liabilities, in fact, they have already established an IASS. Now, since with an IASS nothing is sustained, they have to raise the age, lower the retirement and increase contributions. It is not only in the Professional Fund, this happens in all the funds and worldwide” he warned.
“Today’s young people, when they reach retirement age, it is not known if there will be money for them or how much there will be” Pablo De Barros emphasized.
7 ASSETS TO PAY 1 LIABILITIES
“The assets that are today in the Professional Fund, with the reform that was carried out a few months ago, lost 67% compared to today’s retirees” he stated. “There is more than 30%, which is what one is going to have to pay more because they increased the contributions from 16.5%, taking them first to 18.5%, in January they are going to take them to 20.5%, 21.5%, until they reach 22.5%. All this means that one is going to have to pay approximately 36% more than what a person paid until not long ago to retire” he detailed. “On top of that, as all the parameters in the retirement part also changed, the next retirees are going to lose 36% of their retirement compared to those who are already retired” expressed Pablo De Barros.
At this time to pay a liability in the Professional Fund, 7 assets are needed. “This is unsustainable from a structural point of view, a system like the one we are having with the demographic problems we are having” established.
A CHANGE OF MODEL IS URGENT
“We come to propose a change in model that is the root of all the problems we are having in the Caja” held.
Lists 7 (Passives) and 11 (Assets) also propose a Forensic Audit considering that all affiliates deserve maximum transparency and to know that things were done correctly.
“All those who are active or passive can vote, each one in their sector, and all those who are living in a city and declared so, have to vote in that city. They can also vote by the Uruguayan Post Office or observed in any circuit of the country” explained Dr. Pablo De Barros.
