The Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (Profepa) yesterday seized 3,455 cubic meters of wood in two sawmills as part of the permanent activities against illegal felling in the Biosphere Reserve of the Monarch butterfly, in Michoacán, considered one of the critical forest areas of priority care.
In a statement, the Attorney General’s Office indicated that from July 30 to August 1, its staff made two inspection visits to storage and transformation centers of forest raw materials, located in the towns of San Joaquín and Puerto Bermeo, municipality of Tlalpujahua.
In the first center, he detailed, a volume in a roll of 812.5 cubic meters of pine wood, 325.6 of Oyamel and 128.39 of white cedar, which gave a total of 1,266,51 cubic meters.
In the second sawmill, 1,374 cubic meters of pine wood, 363.3 of Oyamel, 6,348 of oak wood and 444.64 of white cedar, all in squad, which added in a total of 2 thousand 188. 28 cubic meters.
The Profepa said that in both cases they did not present remissions or notes of forest remverses to prove their legal origin, transformation and storage.
In addition, he added, sawmill workers did not show the book or digital record of entries and exits of raw materials and inventoried forest products.
