They put suspension stamps on hotels in Tulum for prices and other violations
During the special operation in Tulum, Profeco detected marked differences between the lodging rates in the center of the municipality and those located within the Jaguar Park, where the highest prices are concentrated.
In the Jaguar Park area, the average price of a single room was 3,577.50 pesos per night, with rates ranging from 1,200 pesos to 10,569 pesos, with the Mi Amor hotel being the most expensive in this category.
For double rooms, the average was 4,771.94 pesos, with prices ranging between 2,200 and 13,860 pesos, and the Diamante K hotel as the highest cost.
These rates contrast with those in the center of Tulum, where a single room is offered between 600 and 1,200 pesos, while doubles range from 700 to 1,400 pesos per night.
As a result of the verifications, Profeco placed suspension seals on four hotels in Jaguar Park: Diamante K, Pocna Tulum, Villa Pescadores and Cabañas Playa Condesa Tulum.
The sanctions were due to various violations of the law, such as not displaying rates, not having terms and conditions of service, inducing the payment of tips, not providing receipts and showing prices in foreign currency or in languages other than Spanish.

Shops and supermarkets are also suspended
In addition to hotels, Profeco extended its operation to self-service stores, pharmacies, groceries and supermarkets, where it found irregularities related to the display of prices and consumer information.
In total, verifications were carried out in eight establishments, including Súper San Francisco de Asís, Walmart, Chedraui Tulum, Comercializadora Farmacéutica del Sureste, Providera del Panadero and Farmacon.
All except Farmacon received sanctions or suspension measures, mainly for not displaying prices clearly and for omitting information about guarantees and returns.
In parallel, Profeco monitored prices in convenience stores such as OXXO, 7-Eleven and GO MART, where it detected that several products are sold in Tulum above the national average.
According to the survey carried out with the Who’s Who in Prices tool, GO MART turned out to be the chain with the highest prices among the three evaluated.

Tacos, burgers and guacamole with very expensive prices
Profeco also detected excessive prices on frequently consumed foods and beverages as part of the operation carried out in response to complaints about the increase in the cost of basic products and tourist services.
The monitoring, carried out with the support of the Who’s Who in Prices (QQP) program, included visits to 29 establishments: five self-service stores, five convenience stores, five pharmacies, five hotels, and nine restaurants and cafes.
Of that total, 22 are located within Jaguar Park, among hotels, beach clubs and restaurants.
Among the products with the highest prices are:
Guacamole: up to 280 pesos per order; minimum of 160 and average of 226.92 pesos.
Simple burger: can exceed 400 pesos; minimum of 270 and average of 348.18 pesos.
Order of three tacos (pastor, steak or roast beef): up to 400 pesos; minimum of 240 and average of 306.31 pesos.
Three quesadillas (cheese, chicken or meat): minimum of 120 pesos, average of 201.25 pesos and maximum of 290 pesos.
Profeco reported that it maintains permanent surveillance in this tourist destination and reiterated that consumers can file complaints with its 38 Consumer Defense Offices (Odeco) and through its customer service channels.
